Cold Callers

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud (e.g. bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

This is just a gentle reminder to remain vigilant. It is at that time of the year again especially at the start of Spring and the sun starts to come out and the temperature rises where you may get cold callers saying your garden / fences / trees etc need fixing / repairing / tidying up. These people may appear genuine and friendly (and some of them may be) however some will carry out low quality work and ask for cash. If someone knocks on your door claiming something needs work, be cautious. Common red flag is cash only payment and pressure tactics with regards to doing the work immediately.

Never agree to work on the spot. A reputable trader does not need to cold call. Ask family and friends for recommendations.

Whilst any offer of work may be genuine, it’s always a good idea to ask a family member or a neighbour for advice before agreeing to any work. A genuine builder wouldn’t be offended if you declined or asked for time to discuss with family.
