👮🏼 A senior Redcar & Cleveland detective, who’s also Cleveland Police’s force lead for burglary, has welcomed a significant fall house burglaries across the policing district ⏬ Detective Chief Inspector Tom Sewell also paid tribute to local partner organisations and communities for their ongoing support in helping police quickly identify emerging neighbourhood crime trends and potential offenders so that police are able to apprehend suspects and place them before the courts ⚖️ 🗣️ Det Chief Insp Sewell said: “As force lead for burglary I’m pleased to report a force wide reduction of over 11% in reports of house burglaries, with Redcar and Cleveland policing district faring particularly well – here we’ve had an 11.4% drop in reports in the 12 months from March 2025 to February this year. “That equates to 75 fewer victims across Redcar & Cleveland and I hope this reassures residents that we recognise the trauma which burglary can have on victims and that we remain committed to driving down offences. “We take house burglary extremely seriously and our efforts to tackle it continue every day. We have daily meetings across the force and within districts with input from neighbourhood and CID teams, as well as our specialist analyst and intelligence colleagues who help us build an up-to-date picture of what crimes are taking place, where and potentially by whom. “We rely on the support of our local authority, housing and other partners too – their staff and officers on the ground and in CCTV control centres play a valuable part in preventing crime or help us detect it when it does occur. “I’d like to thank our local communities for their ongoing support and urge them to help us to help them by taking steps to protect their homes and property.” You can find crime prevention advice on the Cleveland Police website: https://orlo.uk/Wje1J Please also consider signing up to Cleveland Connected - our free, easy to use service which keeps you up to date with crime in your neighbourhood and what officers are doing to tackle it: https://orlo.uk/TBMJV 📞 💻 You can report crime at any time to Cleveland Police via the 101 number (always use 999 in an emergency) or online via our website.
