Loftus PCSO January Update
During the month of December, Loftus ward received 38 reports of crime and 10 reports of Anti-Social Behaviour. The anti-social behaviour incidents consist of 1 youth related incident, 1 altercation between adults, 7 off road bikes / road related incidents and 1 environmental matter regarding loud music which falls under Redcar and Cleveland Council’s remit. Youth related Anti-Social Behaviour at Duncan Place and Coronation Park, and the use of E-Scooters being ridden Loftus High Street and the surrounding areas, remain priorities for Loftus ward. Towards the end of 2025 we received an increase in reports of off road motorcycles being ridden on the land at the rear of Loftus Leisure Centre and around Liverton Mines. We will not chase these motorbikes due to the risks to the rider and wider public, but we will follow up every report. These motorbikes are stored within residential areas. If you see an off road bike coming and going from a particular address, let us know. Legislation gives us 24hours to attend the address and seize the machine. We will continue to conduct patrols and pay attention to these locations. Seizures rely on participation by members of the public. Help us identifies the properties where the bikes are ridden to and from, and we will seize them. During December letters were delivered to all properties in Liverton Mines to highlight the issue regarding off road motorcycles and the negative impact this is having on residents. Action was taken regarding intelligence given to Police and the properties were visited, occupants spoken to and premises searched. A youth was sighted and recognised by Officers riding an E-Scooter on Liverton Road, Liverton Mines. This youth has been visited and spoken to at home address and the relevant follow up action has been taken. On a separate occasion 2 motorcycles were sighted being ridden by youths on Upton Hill, Loftus. Both of the motorcycles made off from Police. However the rider of the other bike was recognised. Appropriate follow up action was taken and the rider sanctioned accordingly. Officers are reminding anyone looking to buy a motorcycle, mini-moto, electric scooter or quad bike that they are classed as mechanically propelled vehicles which require road tax, insurance, a registration plate and a valid MOT if being ridden on a road or other public place. Those riding them need to ensure they are complying with the law and have the appropriate driving licence and safety equipment. Parents / guardians allowing them to be ridden by children illegally could also be liable for prosecution. Those bikes that are not road complaint can be ridden on private land, but only where there is no public access and with the landowner’s permission. Further details can be found in relation to this on Cleveland Police Facebook page. Over recent weeks there have been 2 burglaries to business premises within the ward, one in Loftus and the other in Easington. A male has pleaded guilty to the burglary committed in Loftus and is currently on remand awaiting sentencing. Investigations are ongoing in relation the burglary in Easington. | ||
